Meet Our Music Director, Kirt Mosier

Kirt Mosier is a distinguished composer and conductor whose work spans orchestral performance, composition, and music education. He currently serves as conductor of the Lee’s Summit Symphony and has been artistic director of the Kansas City Youth Symphony. He will appear as a guest conductor with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2026-27 season and serves on the national board of Music for All.

As a conductor, Mosier has led orchestras in celebrated venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, London’s Royal Festival Hall, Reykjavik’s Harpa Hall, Vienna’s Musikverein and MuTH Concert Halls, Salzburg’s Mozarteum, and the Sydney Opera House, as well as venues in Singapore, Jakarta, South Korea, and Thailand.

As a composer, Mosier has earned two national composition awards, for Baltic Dance (1993) and American Reel (2004). In 2010, the Portland Ballet Company of Portland, Maine, commissioned him to compose an original score for their production of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. His work has been featured multiple times at the highly regarded Midwest International Clinic in Chicago, where he also serves as a guest conductor.

In 2020, Mosier was awarded the Artist-in-Residence Grant from Taipei American School and currently holds that position in Taipei, Taiwan. He has also taught orchestration at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory and built a distinguished career as Director of Orchestras for the Raytown and Lee’s Summit School Districts in Missouri.

Beyond music, Mosier founded the Digital Media Technology program at Summit Technology Academy, part of the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. Under his direction, students learned studio multitrack recording and video editing, with many going on to national recognition and successful careers in the industry.

Mosier remains an active guest conductor and continues to compose regularly for publishers and ensembles. In 2022, he was inducted into the Raytown Quality Schools Alumni Hall of Fame.
