Meet Our Music Director, Kirt Mosier

Kirt Mosier is an internationally renowned and critically acclaimed composer and conductor. He currently serves as the conductor of the Lee’s Summit Symphony and has been the artistic director for the Kansas City Youth Symphony. Additionally, he has contributed to the national board of Music for All.
As a conductor, Mosier has led performances with international orchestras in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, London’s Royal Festival Hall, Reykjavik’s Harpa Hall, Vienna’s Musikverein and MuTH Concert Halls, Salzburg’s Mozarteum, as well as venues in Singapore, Jakarta, South Korea, Thailand, and Australia’s iconic Sydney Opera House.
A celebrated composer, Mosier has won two national composition awards for his works Baltic Dance (1993) and American Reel (2004). In 2010, he was commissioned by the Portland Ballet Company of Portland, Maine, to compose an original score for their production of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. His compositions have frequently been featured at the Midwest International Clinic in Chicago, where he is also a regular guest conductor.
In 2020, Mosier was awarded the Artist-in-Residence Grant by the Taipei American School and currently holds that position in Taipei, Taiwan. He has also taught orchestration at the University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory and had a distinguished career as Director of Orchestras for the Raytown and Lee’s Summit School Districts in Missouri.
Beyond music, Mosier was the founding instructor of the Digital Media Technology program at Summit Technology Academy, part of the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. Under his leadership, students learned studio multitrack recording and video editing, with many earning national recognition and pursuing successful careers in the industry.
Mosier remains an active guest conductor worldwide and continues to compose annually for various publishers while fulfilling commissions for ensembles. In 2022, he was inducted into the Raytown Quality Schools Alumni Hall of Fame, further cementing his legacy in music and education.
