First Concert Saturday, October 15, 2016
The Lee’s Summit Symphony’s first concert of its 14th season begins October 15th with a program entitled “TIME and TRAVEL,” featuring favorite symphonic works from several musical eras and various countries. Musical selections include Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides, Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Haydn, and Gershwin’s Cuban Overture.
The event will be at Lee’s Summit High School’s Performing Arts Center, 400 S.W. Blue Parkway, starting with a pre-concert conversation led by Dr. Carrie Turner at 6:00, during which concertgoers can learn more about the stories behind the music and clues about what to listen for. Auditorium doors open at 6:30 and the performance begins at 7:00 pm.
Tickets for TIME and TRAVEL are now on sale at both Lee’s Summit Hy-Vee Stores and online at lssymphony.org. Adult tickets are $15.00 each, and Youth/Student $7.00 each. Students in 4th, 5th and 6th grade are admitted free with one paid adult; during these school years’ students are considering whether to play—or starting to play–an instrument, and benefit from hearing a live orchestral performance.
The mission of the Lee’s Summit Symphony is to enhance the local cultural scene by providing high quality, accessible, live performances that inspire, educate and entertain. Conductor Russ Berlin and 70+ musicians look forward to taking their audience on a beautiful virtual trip through time and travel on October 15th.
